He Reigns

Another new song!  Without audio, it’s hard to imagine, but it’s in 6/8 with open tuning.  When I was practicing, my fingers went to the chords (which you can’t hear) and I began singing, “He reigns”.  The rest of the song was “la la la” until I looked up “He reigns” in the Bible.  There are three Psalms that start with those two words– 93, 97, and 99.  After reading through them a bunch of times while playing the chords, these are the verses I came up with.  I also used a few words from Daniel 7:13 and Revelation 1:7.  We sang this song at church Sunday and this Saturday.  I know singing around His throne in heaven will be better than anything on earth, but since being on earth is all I know, it’s hard to imagine anything could top the amazing experience of having believers sing a song you wrote as they worship the Lord!

HE REIGNS

Shout His glory, sing His praise

— the Great I Am, Ancient of Days

Creator God, the Three-in-One

— on earth there’s no comparison

The sea is lifting up its voice

— the waves and distant shores rejoice

Mountains melt and bow before

— the Most High God and Holy Lord

He reigns!

He reigns!

He reigns!

He reigns!

Enthroned between the cherubim

— before Him sun and light grow dim

He sits exalted, we proclaim

— His holy, great and awesome name

See, He rides upon the clouds

— the heavens part, a trumpet sounds

All nations, men of every tongue

— bow before the Risen One

He reigns!

He reigns!

He reigns!

He reigns!

Lift your head and raise a shout

If we keep still, the stones cry out

Lift your head and raise a shout

If we keep still, the stones cry out

He reigns!

He reigns!

He reigns!

He reigns!
