May the Mind of Christ

This afternoon I was singing a hymn I arranged while getting the stage ready at church for our worship service tomorrow morning.  As I went through the lobby I was still singing – and the natural reverb was great!  So I stood there, looking up at the blue sky peeking through clouds from behind window frames that look like a cross, having my own personal worship time, just Jesus and me.  When I was done I thought I’d try reenacting the moment while making a video with my cell phone.  Musical-audio multi-tasking was hard!  But it turned out OK.  There are some musical inconsistencies, wrong notes, and a couple out of tune (no Autotune here!)

This hymn text has been special to the ladies’ Sunday School class at Trinity for several months as we seek to become more like Christ as we read Francis Chan’s CRAZY LOVE, and now RADICAL, by David Platt.  It’s kind of a theme song, so I thought it might be appropriate to sing it tomorrow for Mothers’ Day.  As I was practicing, the rhythm began to morph and a chorus appeared (from the original fourth verse).

If you want to use this song in your group or church please make a note on your CCLI report.  They pay me royalties which help pay our ministry expenses.

May The Mind Of Christ

1.  May the mind of Christ my Savior live in me from day to day—

By His love and power controlling all I do and say

2.  May the word of God dwell richly in my heart from hour to hour—

So that all may see I triumph only through His power

Come and fill my life as the waters flood the sea

Overwhelm my soul, Jesus, I lay it at your feet

3.  May the peace of God my Father rule my life in everything—

That I may be calm to comfort sick and sorrowing

5.  May I run the race before me strong and brave to face the foe—

Looking only unto Jesus as I onward go

Come and fill my life as the waters flood the sea

Overwhelm my soul, Jesus, I lay it at your feet

6.  May His beauty rest upon me as I seek the lost to win—

And may they forget the channel seeing only Him

Come and fill my life as the waters flood the sea

Overwhelm my soul, Jesus, I lay it at your feet

I will rise and follow Thee
